Hi,
I’m Matas Pakutinskas, a lithuanian artist with a bachelor’s degree of Animation Design in Netherlands Willem de Kooning Academy, currently working on promoting and participating in various festivals with my latest animated short film ‘Little October’.
Back in Lithuanian I studied culinary for a year, which aided me to differentiate hobby from work. I always felt that I should give animation a shot. Which would be a long one, coming from complete different industry, however, I was always keen for creative activities. During my school years in Lithuania I attended Skalvija film Academy which surged my curiosity into films as an artform and expression. I participated in filming projects both as a director, editor and camera assistant. However, filmmaking lacked the sillyness, playfulness and limited freedom of expression which few years later I found in animation. During my studies I worked in Stadslab Rotterdam which aided me in gathering technological knowledge and provided me with an opportunity to experiment.
Lastly, I completed 5 months internship at a company Ironcat, and various freelance work, where I applied my creative skills and gained experience in cooperation.
My art mainly focuses on combining film technique and animation using surrealism, composition, storrytelling and speculative scenarios which foreshadow real life issues through a humoristic lens. I aim to entertain, charm and hopefully inspire people to create, experiment and express themselves.
Hit me up, let’s create together! :)
